Artist's Comments

This is part of a project I did a while ago. As part of this project, I photographed several different types of fruit and digitally manipulated them to suggest that peeling one type of fruit will reveal a different type below the peel. The most difficult part of this project for me was coming up with fruits that really looked good together. I had originally wanted to create a series of ten images but time constraints and other factors limited that number to five. I am, however, quite satisfied with the final images.

This is the most subtle of the five. Many people have no clue what the inside of a mango looks like. It doens't look like an orange...I promise. I really like the colors here.

Manipulated using Photoshop 5.5 & 7.0.

They all look so real... this one doesn't seem very appealing to me...Maybe because it just feels weird to have that kind of skin covering a citrus fruit... The photograph is appealing...it's the eating it aspect I mean... =D

Wow, awesome series! Clever idea and excellently realized!
I think this one is my fav of the 5. Perhaps because as you say, it's the most subtle one :)

Well thank you! I had fun with the series :)

Yes, the subtle nature of this one really adds an element of realism to this one.

this one is the only one in the series that doesn't work for me, and it took a while to work out why (i've been staring in awe at all of them for best part of an hour, i swear! :| distracting me from my work!

but i think the reason this one doesn't work is simply that the inside of the mango skin is clearly wet, and the surface of the mandarin is dry, which means it looks wrong, to my eye at least. fix that, and you've got another winner!

congratulations on a fascinating series!xxx

Good catch. If I were to redo it I would probably wet the skin of the mandarin orange.

I love mangos...thou they are very difficult to peel! =)
Great job! You should try selling them to, or displaying them at a juice bar!
=D
